Ronnie Baxter dumps Adrian Lewis

RONNIE BAXTER beat world champ Adrian Lewis to win the Players Championship in Birmingham yesterday – his first ranking title for 10 months.
The Blackpool ace claimed the £6000 first prize after a brilliant display that brought a 6-3 success in a heavy-scoring contest.
Baxter took care of Steve Grubb, Dennis Smith, Joe Cullen, James Hubbard and Peter Hudson to reach the semi-finals where he came from 4-1 down to beat Wes Newton 6-5.
In the final, he took a 3-0 lead and stretched it to 4-1 before Lewis produced a superb 11-darter to cut the deficit.
But a miss on the bullseye allowed Baxter to move a leg away from glory. The pair also traded maximums in the eighth leg as Lewis’s 14-darter kept the match alive but Baxter’s sixth 180 of the game pushed him clear in the next before a double 10 clinched victory.
